Often called “The Queen of Film Noir,” Barbara Stanwyck received her fourth Oscar nomination for her portrayal of a bedridden woman who picks up the telephone and overhears a sinister plot for murder over the party line. Frantic, she attempts to enlist the help of the authorities and her unheeding husband, played by Burt Lancaster.
