Sandi Dubowski’s moving documentary explores two decades of the life of Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie, 38th generation in a venerable family of Orthodox Rabbis, and founder of the experimental and radically inclusive Jewish Community Lab-Shul. A self-declared “drag-queen rebel” and “queer father”, Lau-Levie sets out to become a religious leader whose life’s work is to make the tenets of his tradition available to all, regardless of sexual or gender identity, and to ensure Judaism holds a place for people like him.
