At the height of the Depression, Barbara Stanwyck plays a newspaper columnist who unintentionally starts a grassroots political movement after she writes an op-ed from the perspective of a working-class everyman. The piece strikes a chord with her readers, and she is forced to hire a homeless man (charmingly played by Gary Cooper) to publicly pose as the now-famous John Doe. A must-see from legendary director Frank Capra.
