After a romantic fling a year prior, a man is surprised to learn that his lover, although present for their planned rendezvous, has no memory of meeting him. Reality and the imaginary are interwoven in this beautiful and sometimes disorienting classic. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel personally designed the captivating haute couture looks worn by the film’s star Delphine Seyrig. The House of Chanel worked closely to aid in this new restoration of Alain Resnais’ landmark French New Wave film. In French w/ subtitles.
About the Fashion: An already-successful Coco Chanel agreed to design costumes for Samuel Goldwyn’s leading ladies at United Artists in the 1930s, but abandoned that effort after working on only three films. She made a triumphant return to cinema with her work on LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD. Chanel had total control over the timeless ensembles worn by Seyrig, from sophisticated black dresses that demand the viewer’s focus in the film’s monochrome palette to dreamy chiffon and feathered gowns, seeing her creations on a big screen is a sight to behold.
