Our 7pm screening of CHINATOWN will be introduced by Lee Clark Mitchell, professor of American literature and film at Princeton University.
This reworked Hammett/Chandler style mystery set in 1937 Los Angeles stars Jack Nicholson as a private eye who’s in over his head in a complex case that stays a few twists ahead of him. Robert Towne’s screenplay is sharp and Roman Polanski’s dark direction is even sharper. Femme fatale Dunaway and sinister developer Huston are perfect. Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, CHINATOWN is still the quintessential neo-noir. Rated R.
